Plan With A Purpose
We are pleased to provide Career Counseling services using a Christian foundation to help you explore your passion and purpose. Making choices about where to go to college, what field to study, and what career path is best are major decisions. We will work closely with you offering guidance and direction throughout the career exploration and decision-making process.
Why Career Counseling?
Have you ever tried to put together a puzzle and then realized that you didn’t have all the pieces that you needed? Choosing a college, a choice of major, and a career path without asking the question “Who am I?” is like trying to put together a puzzle with missing pieces. It’s important to learn who you are, how you’re wired, what your strengths are, and what you’re capable of doing. This is a big piece of the career planning puzzle.
Did You Know?
- About 1 in 3 students pursuing a bachelor’s degree change their major at least once during their undergraduate program.
- 1 in 10 students change their major more than 1 time.
- In the U.S., nearly 86% of men and 87% of women work more than 40 hours a week.
Young Adults & Parents – Effective and early-on career counseling can save young adults and their families a lot of extra time and money as they may be less likely to change their major. Young adults who actively participate in their career exploration and planning process with a trained career counselor can help gain confidence in who they are and a direction for their future.
Adults Transitioning Careers – If you are in a career path that isn’t satisfying or aligning with your values, you don’t have to feel stuck! It is never too late to evaluate which industry and company or corporate culture are best for you. After all, these decisions can make lasting impacts on other areas of your life. You will likely spend more time at work than with friends or family. Effective career counseling can provide you with the insight to make changes to improve your quality of life.
How We Can Help
Whether you are just starting to explore the world and identify what you should study and pursue as a career, or you are an adult looking to find more meaning and satisfaction in your life, career counseling is extremely helpful. Our designed Plan with a Purpose model keeps you focused on what is most important to achieve your career goals. Plan with a Purpose is an action-based approach to help reveal your personalized goals and career plan. Together we will focus on identifying your Personality+, Passions, and Possibilities.
Personality+
We use a series of brief assessments to help you learn more about yourself and/or confirm things that you may have already known. One of the tools we use is YouScience. Exploration is an important phase of career counseling that is often overlooked. Rather than putting all your attention on “What should I major in?” it may be better to start asking, “Who am I?” Personality+ takes a closer look at your personality, abilities, strengths, and interests to see how they apply to certain career paths or career industries. Personality+ is the most important step of answering, “Who am I?”
Passions
As we discuss who you are, we will start to unveil what you like and dislike. Sometimes the process of eliminating what you don’t like helps you discover what you do like. Passions are revealed over time and can change with maturity and life experiences. We will explore the interests you have already identified in your life and look for ways to try new experiences. The passions stage will help you identify “What are my interests?”
Possibilities
Once we learn more about who you are and what interests you, the fun part begins – exploring! Together we will discuss ways for you to “try out” your interest and passions to see what a potential career field is like and determine if it is a good fit for you. During the possibilities stage, you will start a master list to answer the question, “What are my options?”
