Erin Cupp, Trauma Recovery Coach

Justice. Far too often, we as trauma survivors are pressured to mask our pain so we can be “peacemakers” or “be merciful as God is merciful.” So we put smiles on our faces, distract ourselves from our broken hearts with unhealthy coping mechanisms, and try to keep going as best as we can. This arrangement may enable the comfort of the unrepentant sinners who cause (and keep causing) us pain, but it burdens us with anxiety, depression, compulsions, and even physical damage to our brains and bodies. Eventually something has to give. God sees this injustice and longs to make it right for us.

Part of achieving this justice is cooperating with God’s plan to give you choice, voice, and joy. As a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach (CTRC), I have received specialized trauma-informed training so that I can support you, peer-to-peer, as you break free from those old coping mechanisms that once kept you alive but now keep you stuck, depressed, anxious, and alone.

Some of the issues we could address in coaching sessions include:

  • Complex childhood trauma
  • Betrayal trauma
  • Intimate partner abuse
  • Infertility trauma
  • Financial abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Emotional neglect
  • Narcissistic trait abuse
  • Sibling abuse
  • Spiritual abuse
  • Compulsive coping mechanisms (food, alcohol, screen addictions, etc.)
  • Self-advocacy
  • Self-esteem
  • Self-love
  • Rebuilding trust in God’s plan

As the psalmist writes, “Kindness and truth shall meet. Justice and peace shall kiss.” I would be honored to walk with you towards the truth and justice you deserve so that you can feel the kindness and peace God wishes to restore to you.

Erin is grateful to be recovering from the compulsive effects of developmental and betrayal trauma. She coaches, writes and speaks about mental health, family trauma, and addiction recovery. With an undergraduate degree in related arts (theatre, writing, and visual art), she incorporates creativity into her work with her clients as a way to connect with God’s creative love for us. She is the author of several courses and books, including All Things New: Breaking the Cycle and Raising a Joyful Family (Our Sunday Visitor Books, 2021). She also enjoys being a part of community theater projects throughout the year, with a special heart for all things Shakespeare, and she volunteers at Bridlepath Equine Therapeutic Riding Center. When not coaching, writing, studying, or volunteering, she enjoys crochet and hiking with her kids and her German Shepherd Dog, Vesta.
